Yesenia Vargas, APRN
HORMONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
About Me
I’m a midwife with a background in reproductive health, psychology, and patient-centered care.
My work in reproductive health began in 2010. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, then earned my Master of Science in Nursing from DePaul University. During my decade at the bedside as a labor and delivery nurse, I discovered my passion for obstetric care and the deep relationships formed during life-changing moments.
My commitment to reproductive health led me to complete a post-master’s program in midwifery at the University of Illinois in Chicago. I went on to work in reproductive endocrinology, where I supported individuals and couples navigating infertility, pursuing pregnancy, and experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss. These experiences gave me a unique perspective on the emotional landscape that often accompanies reproductive challenges.
Most recently, I’ve been practicing as a full-scope midwife on Chicago’s south side, caring for adolescents, LGBTQIA+ patients, and other underserved communities. In this work, I saw how deeply mental health and reproductive health intersect, especially for patients whose lives are shaped by complex social and emotional factors. That insight, along with my passion for continued learning, inspired me to expand my training and pursue psychiatric mental health as an additional specialty.
I’m known for my warm, grounded presence and my ability to connect with patients from all backgrounds. I draw on my clinical experience to offer trauma-informed, inclusive care that honors each patient’s story. My approach blends authenticity, compassion, and a commitment to creating safe, supportive spaces for healing.
Outside of work, I enjoy plant-based cooking, growing vegetables, running, and spending time with my family and my dogs.
